Square breathing, also called box breathing, is a simple exercise to help relieve stress from the body. You can practice this several times throughout the day to help reset the nervous system.
Square Breathing Technique:
Find a comfortable seat, close your eyes, and take a few regular breaths. Notice where you are holding tension in your body. Try to relax those areas.
Inhale through your nose slowly for 4 seconds.
Hold your breath for 4 seconds at the top of your inhale.
Exhale through your mouth slowly for 4 seconds.
Hold your breath for 4 seconds at the bottom of your exhale.
Repeat steps 2-5 until you feel re-centered.
