Traditional Chinese Medicine & Autumn Nutrition.

In Chinese Medicine, certain foods are recommended for each season to keep us feeling our best.

As we transition into fall, the cool, dry air can leave us feeling depleted and vulnerable to colds. We can support our bodies this season by focusing on warming and nourishing foods that protect the lungs and strengthen immunity.

It is also beneficial to consume pungent foods this time of year. Overall, we want to eat grounding and moistening meals to help balance the autumn dryness and strengthen our bodies for winter.

Food Suggestions for Autumn:

Fruit: apples, pears, persimmons, figs, grapes, pomegranates, cranberries

Vegetables: sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, squash, leeks, onions, turnips, cabbage, radishes, cauliflower, mushrooms, daikon, parsnips, mustard greens

Protein: organic chicken, duck, turkey, pork, tofu, eggs, nuts, seeds

Grains: brown rice, oats, millet, quinoa

Herbs: ginger, garlic, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, rosemary, thyme, horseradish

Drinks: warm water with lemon, herbal teas (ginger, cinnamon, licorice root), bone broth, chrysanthemum tea

Avoid: cold and raw foods, excess dairy, overly spicy foods, and fried/greasy foods that can slow digestion during this time of year

Save this list for your next grocery trip to keep your body nourished and aligned with the rhythms of fall! 🍂✨
