Marriage in the time of Covid.
On September 26th, 2021, my husband and I got to have our wedding in Boulder, Colorado. It was a dream and I am so grateful to everyone who made the weekend possible. I’m also grateful that we were able to safely have a celebration during such an uncertain time.
Planning a wedding during a pandemic wasn’t easy. We had to postpone our wedding three times and we were constantly pivoting our plans. Although it was challenging, I actually learned so much from the experience. I learned how to let go and adapt, how to take things one day at a time, and how to trust that I can handle uncertainty. In fact, when we lean into that uncertainty, things can turn out even better than we could have imagined.
I realize now that the ebb and flow of planning a wedding during COVID (and anytime, really) mirrors the ebb and flow of a marriage. It takes a lot of work, patience, and surrender. I’m so lucky to have a partner who is willing to walk this path with me.
Recently, I was chatting with a friend who told me there are two types of couples. There is the kind that says, “If we get through this…”, and there is the kind that says, “How will we get through this?”. I like to think that my husband and I are the latter and that we will continue to ride the waves of marriage for many years to come.
